Track & Field Sending 18 To NCAA West Prelims

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Next week the Texas State track and field program will be sending 18 athletes to compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round meet that will be held May 25-27 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Bobcats will be competing in 18 individual events and both of the men’s relay races.

The top 48 athletes in each individual event and the top 24 relay teams qualified for the West regional. Individuals and relays that finish in the top 12 will advance to the championship weekend in Eugene, Oregon taking place June 7-10.

Competing in three events in the Lone Star State’s capital will be Tramesha Hardy. The sophomore is slated to run in the 100m, 200m and 400m dashes. She enters the meet with the 16th fastest time in the 200m (23.06) and 17th quickest (11.38) in the 100m.

Also slated to compete in three events is Julie Lange. The senior thrower is entered into the discus, shot put and hammer throw competitions. She ranks in the top 20 in both the shot put (13th) and discus (19th).

Senior Abby Hani qualified in both the 100m hurdles and the long jump. Joining her in the hurdles race will be Antonisha Stewart.

The fourth TXST athlete to run on the track is Sydni Willis in the 400m hurdles. Her qualifying time of 58.96 ranks in the top half of the event.

High jumpers Chelsie Decoud and Courtney Johnson both headed into the meet as favorites to advance to the National Championships. Decoud has the third-highest clearance of the competitors at a school and Sun Belt Conference record 1.85m (6-0.75). Johnson is ranked 13th with a career best jump of 1.80m (5-10.75).

Aiming to get back to the national championship meet to earn another All-American honor in the triple jump is Mylana Hearn.

Lincoln Warren will have the busiest weekend of any Bobcat athlete, participating in four events. The Mesquite, Texas native is entered in the 200m and 400m. He will also run a leg of both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.

Joining him on both relay teams will be Dexter Lee and De’Marcus Porter. Joining them on the 4x100m relay will be Cody Schulz, who will compete in the long jump. Gilson Umunnakwe will run one of the four legs of the 4x400m relay.

Slated for action on the track as well is Christopher Green in the 400m hurdles and Tyrone Jackson in the 800m.

The triple jump will see Alvin Chikaeze and Michael Madu attempt to advance to Oregon. The two Bobcats jumpers are tied for the most entrants in the event from a program in the state of Texas.

Entering the meet as the highest ranked TXST individual in an event is T’Mond Johnson. His qualifying mark of 19.03m (62-5.25) in the shot put places him as the 10th seed.

The regional meet on Thursday with the women’s hammer at 11 a.m. The first track event, women’s 400m hurdles, start at 4:30 p.m.
