2015 Hays County CROP Hunger Walk

2015 Hays County CROP Hunger Walk
Hays County Food Bank is holding a community response to overcoming poverty. Their annual Hays County CROP Hunger Walk will be held on April 12th.
“This event is something the Food Bank co-sponsors with Church World Service every year to raise awareness of their ongoing efforts to raise funds to increase access to food and water locally and globally. Funds are also used for disaster relief efforts, and have been used recently with flooding in the South Austin area.” according to Jane Moore of Hays County Food Bank.
Registration starts at 2:00 PM at the Dunbar Recreation Center, and the walk will begin at 2:30 PM.
“We would love to have several teams representing their own team OR donate online to our team that will be walking with various churches, businesses, schools, and community organizations. We have already had a positive response from the Kyle Chamber, so it would be Fabulous to have some hometown walkers or spirit walkers who donate on behalf of our team,” said Moore.
How the CROP funds are used locally;
25% of the money raised in our *CROP Hunger Walk is given to the Hays County Food Bank to help our local community.
According to a Feeding America study in 2012, Hays County has 24,790 food insecure individuals.
Hays County Food Bank provides food at six distributions throughout the county. They also provide food for over 40 partner agencies, including the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center, Wimberley Crisis Bread Basket, Southside Community Center, and Buda United Methodist Church.
How the CROP funds are used globally;
The other 75% is used both nationally and globally
CROP Hunger Walks help to provide food, water, and resources that empower people to meet their own needs. From seeds and tools, to wells and water systems, to technical training and micro-enterprise loans, the key is people working together to identify their own development priorities, their strengths and their needs.
