Kyle Economic Development Celebrates 15 years

Staff Reports

KYLE, TEXAS – Kyle City Council kicked off the celebration for the 15-Year anniversary of the Kyle Economic Development Department and National Economic Development Week with a presentation from Director of Kyle Economic Development Diana Blank-Torres during the Tuesday, May 4 Council Meeting.

Kyle Economic Development originally planned to host their 15th Anniversary celebration in October of 2020 but decided to delay the festivities until National Economic Development Week of 2021, due to COVID.

The Kyle Economic Development Department was created in October of 2005 as a one-person department headed by Blank-Torres and has since grown to a team of three, with Victoria Vargas joining in 2009, and Lauren Lyons in 2020.

“The City of Kyle has grown in leaps and bounds in the last 15 years,” Blank-Torres said. “In that time, Kyle has become one of the consistently fastest growing cities in the State of Texas — and we’re now home to a population that is almost 10 times what it was in 2000. We went from flipping the switch for our first stoplight in 2007 to having multiple Fortune 500 companies invest in the city. That kind of growth has been an extraordinary thing to witness.”

Kyle has experienced an exceptional amount of commercial and industrial growth since the Kyle Economic Development Department was created, including the development of over 2 million sq. ft. of newly constructed industrial facilities, the establishment of Kyle as a medical hub in Hays County with over 2 million sq. ft. in medical facilities that have created over 2,000 medical-related jobs in the area and creating strong partnerships with the workforce training and higher education organizations to help create a talented and skilled workforce.

Kyle Economic Development will be celebrating their Anniversary and National Economic Development Week, May 9-15, with the roll-out of a new website that will go live on Monday, May 10 as well as hosting a social media trivia contest.

The department will also be promoting its First Year on Us program, which allows businesses to apply for a one-time tax rebate up to $10,000 for improvements on real and personal property that increases the value of said property.
