City Invites Human Services Agency Applications
The Advisory Board will review applications and make its recommendations to assist programs of local social service agencies with approximately $450,000 of funding
Human service agency applications for funding from the City of San Marcos for 2017-2018 are now available and are due by February 10, 2017.
Agencies may pick up an application from the Finance Department in the Municipal Building, 630 E. Hopkins or download from http://www.sanmarcostx.gov/finance.
Applications must be received by 12 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2017 at the Finance Department. No late submissions will be considered.
The Human Services Advisory Board will review applications and make its recommendations to the City Council in the spring. The City Council will decide allocations in its budget process that will be concluded in September 2017. Funding will be for the fiscal year from Oct. 1, 2017 to Sept. 30, 2018.
The City Council has allocated approximately $450,000 from the General Fund to assist programs of local social service agencies in recent budgets.
Agencies funded in 2016-17 include Hays County Area Food Bank, San Marcos Housing Authority, San Marcos Youth Service Bureau, Southside Community Center, Hays Caldwell Women’s Center, School Fuel, Combined Community Action, Scheib Opportunity Center, Hays County Homespun, Greater San Marcos Youth Council, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, CASA of Central Texas, Community Action, Hays Caldwell Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, Nosotros La Gente, Pet Prevent A Litter, PALS, Hays County Child Protective Board, United Way, SMCISD and Central TX Dispute Resolution Center.
To participate in the application process, an agency must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a Human Services agency as defined by the City Council of the City of San Marcos.
- Must be overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors.
- Must provide services in the San Marcos area.
- Must establish that it is performing a needed service to the community not provided by any other agency.
- Must execute an agency agreement with the City of San Marcos.
- Must have measurable goals and agree to undergo periodic program evaluations by the Human Services Advisory Board or City of San Marcos staff.
- Must have letters of support from members of the San Marcos community.
NOTE: The City of San Marcos supports local agencies that provide valuable services to the community through multiple funding sources including Human Services Social Services funding, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), and San Marcos Commission on Children and Youth funding.
It is the City’s policy that each program can be funded during any fiscal year from only one City funding source. Agencies can submit only one application per program to the City funding source of their choice. An agency can submit applications for multiple programs to the same funding source.
