Local Attorney Ronnie Dickens Loses Battle Against Cancer

Services for Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Dickens, 63, will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos. Family will be available following the service for visitation. Graveside services will be held for family and friends at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Shanks Cemetery in Teague.

Ronnie was born in Teague to Nathan and La Verne Dickens. He graduated from Teague High School in 1970 and from Southwest Texas State University in 1978. He attended South Texas School of Law and graduated in 1982.

He opened a private practice in Alpine where he practiced until 1987 and then moved to Stephenville to open Dickens Law Office. This is where he raised his family. He was very active in the community and his kids’ activities. In 2004, he moved his practice to San Marcos.

Ronnie met Pam in 1969 at Garner State Park while on a family vacation at the tender age of 17. They were married in March 1972 and have been together ever since. Ronnie wanted nothing more than to be with “his girls.”

Ronnie loved his two grandsons, Jack and Rhett, who loved their “Pop” just as much in return. He especially loved his daughters and wife, to whom he devoted everything. Ronnie’s larger-than-life personality will be greatly missed.

Ronnie was a man of many trades, hobbies and talents, including; lawyer, cowboy, actor, pilot, talented carpenter, comedian, optimist, singer, golfer, coach and athlete. He was an avid musician who could play many instruments, including guitar, banjo, harmonica, drums and more.

He also built two houses and one office in addition to other construction projects. His biggest accomplishment was doing things for his children and many others.

He is survived by wife, Pam Dickens of San Marcos; two daughters, Amanda M. Jordan and husband Chris of Dallas and Emily E. Brooks and husband Bill of Stephenville; two grandsons, Everett Jordan and Jackson Brooks; his mother, La Verne Senter; sister, Sue Persons; brother, Randy Dickens and wife Kathy; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Everett Dickens; and brother-in-law, Pete Persons.
