Mensor’s Annual Food Drive Collects Nearly 2 Tons To Feed Those In Need In Hays County

Mensor has had an employee led food drive for the Hays County food bank for at least 15 years. Mensor, as a company, genuinely enjoys helping out an organization who helps out the community in which they live and work.

For the past 3 years, Mensor has engaged their new employees as team captains to lead a friendly competition. First, captains visit the food bank for a tour and orientation on what happens there. They then move into a two week “fund raising” period where employees bring canned goods and/or have in-house events to raise funds to purchase groceries. Most of the events revolve around food; breakfast tacos, bake sales, soup and salad lunches, pancake breakfasts. They also have silent auctions, raffles, and more. The captains shop the night before the weigh in and verify the exact pounds per team. They are very competitive!

This year employees were excited to donate over 3,800 pounds of food to the Food Bank. All food was picked up on Friday, November 13th from the Mensor warehouse. Food Bank staff and volunteers, along with Mensor staff, helped to load the nearly 2 tons of food so that it could be processed and given out to those who need it in Hays County.

The Hays County Food Bank has received overwhelming support this holiday season, but we would like to remind you that we operate all year long. Hunger knows no season, and the food we have received at this time will not last a whole year. Late spring to early summer, the shelves will start to empty out, and food drives and other support are needed more than ever.

The Hays County Food Bank would like to issue a countywide challenge to businesses, schools, civic groups, churches, etc. to host a month long food drive in April. If we all work together, we can truly make an impact on hunger in Hays County. Please let us know if you will be hosting a food/fund drive by visiting www.HaysFoodBank.org and clicking on Donate Food Drive & Fundraiser Registration Form. We encourage you to drop off food donations, as we have limited resources, and are not always able to pick up food donations. We also encourage you to visit us when you drop off food so that you can take a tour and see what we do.

The Turkeys Tackling Hunger fundraising campaign will run until December 1st which is Giving Tuesday. If you would like to donate funds to this campaign, please visit www.TurkeysTacklingHunger.org. Your donation will be used to purchase food and to support the ongoing operating costs of the Hays County Food Bank.
