EPIC Piping Begins Operations, Creating 350 Jobs in San Marcos

March 11, 2015 – SAN MARCOS, TX – The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), the economic development organization for the City of San Marcos, Hays and Caldwell Counties, today announced that San Marcos-based pipe fabrication company EPIC Piping, formerly known as United WELD Holdings, LLC, has begun recruiting after announcing its executive management team on March 4. In a March 4th press release, EPIC Piping announced its executive management team, which will be responsible for driving growth at its two state-of-the-art facilities under construction. This leadership team will also drive the future international expansion of EPIC Piping. Together, the EPIC Piping management team has over 500 years of combined experience.
 
David Chapman, Sr. will lead the company as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Chapman has been in the manufacturing and fabrication industry for over 45 years, managing the pipe and steel fabrication and distribution divisions for several global industry leaders. Mr. Chapman will be responsible for managing business and operational strategies across the entire organization.
 
Including Mr. Chapman, the EPIC Piping management team will include: Kent Shephard, President of Domestic Fabrication; Remi Bonnecaze, President of International Fabrication; Tom Calamia, Chief Financial Officer; and Jeremy Turner, Chief Administrative Officer & CIO. In December 2014, the San Marcos City Council and Hays County Commissioners Court both unanimously approved Economic Development Incentive Agreements with EPIC Piping, formally known as United WELD Operations, LLC, and its affiliated entities, providing incentives in the form of annual refunds of 80 percent of ad valorem taxes generated from newly added real and personal property over ten years. As a part of the agreement, EPIC Piping will create 350 jobs in San Marcos over ten years.

The 221,500 square-foot manufacturing facility is located at 2301 N IH-35, the former Butler Manufacturing Facility which has been vacant since December 2013. EPIC is currently expanding the facility to over 300,000 square-feet.
 
Since the formation of GSMP in October 2010, the Partnership staff has worked 241 projects or requests for information (RFI) resulting in 23 announcements, 1,358 jobs announced and more than $29 million in capital investment in the two county footprint. Thirteen of these announcements were located in the city of San Marcos announcing 603 jobs and over $20 million of capital investment.
