Kyle Announces Mayoral Runoff Election
KYLE, TEXAS – During last night’s meeting, Kyle City Council set the runoff election date for the Mayoral race for Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, to coordinate with other local runoff elections.
City of Kyle election results will be canvassed on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and outgoing council members will be acknowledged, and new council members will be sworn in during the Tuesday, Nov. 17 meeting.
The City Council held a General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3 for the purpose of electing three members to the Kyle City Council, each for three-year terms, specifically Mayor, City Council Place 2, and a City Council Place 4.
Below are the unofficial election results for those races. These results will not be official until they are canvassed on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Mayor & Council Seats Election Results:
Mayor:
- Travis Mitchell – 5,795 or 37.59%
- Linda Tenorio – 5,831 or 37.82%
- David Abdel – 2,411 or 15.64%
- Peter Parcher – 1,379 or 8.95%
The Mayoral runoff election will be between incumbent Travis Mitchell and challenger Linda Tenorio.
District 2:
- Teresa “Tracy” Scheel – 1,794 or 39.02%
- Yvonne Flores-Cale – 2,804 or 60.98%
District 4:
- Ashlee Bradshaw – 3,179 or 60.94%
- Tim McHutchion – 2,038 or 39.06%
Special Election Bond Election Results:
A special election was held for Proposition A and Proposition B. Both Prop A and Prop B passed.
Proposition A, which sought approval for the issuance of $37 million in general obligation bonds to fund the design, construction and equipping of a new Public Safety Center that would be located on Marketplace Avenue at Kohler’s Crossing, passed with 55.49% or 9,225 votes.
Proposition B, which sought approval for the issuance of $10 million in general obligation bonds to fund property acquisition, planning, designing, developing, constructing, improving, and equipping of a Regional Sportsplex and Festival Grounds as well as improvements to the Plum Creek recreational trail east of I-35 and improvements to Gregg-Clarke Park including construction of skatepark and amenities at Ash Pavilion, passed with 56.23% or 9,190 votes.
Special Charter Amendment Election Results:
A special election was held in the City of Kyle to vote on Home Rule Charter Amendments. All passed.
Proposition C, which would amend the City Charter to require consent to annexation of land by the City as required by state law and to conform annexation and “disannexation procedures” to state law, passed with 74.68% or 11,385 votes.
Proposition D, that would amend the City Charter to provide that the election precincts for City elections are those established by ordinance or state law and to provide that City Hall may be one of the polling places during City elections, passed with 89.35% or 13,933 votes.
Proposition E, that would amend the City Charter to authorize the City Council to call elections on ballot propositions that are non-binding in nature when the council wishes to obtain an informal indication of the city’s voters on an issue, passed with 69.82% or 10,402 votes.
Proposition F, that would amend the City Charter to provide that police department procedures and policies will be subject to review and modification by the City Council, to require the Police Chief to provide the City Council with an annual report about police department operations, and to provide for the City Council to establish a committee with oversight over standard operating policies and strategies, data sharing, and use of resources of the police department for the purpose of promoting public safety, transparency, and crime reduction through community policing models, passed with 76.90% or 12,031 votes.
Proposition G, that would amend the City Charter to grant the City Council authority to make non-substantive revisions to the City Charter for numbering, spelling, grammar, cross-references, and punctuation without obtaining separate approval of the voters in a Charter amendment election, passed with 65.78% or 9,845 votes.
