Texas AG Office: January criminal round-up

The Office of the Attorney General conducts criminal investigations and apprehensions including cases involving cyber-crimes such as child pornography, online solicitation of minors, identity theft, election fraud, locating and apprehending convicted sex offenders who have failed to comply with mandated sex offender registration requirements, and conducting digital forensics investigations.

The Office of the Attorney General also operates the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit which investigates criminal fraud by Medicaid providers, abuse and neglect of patients in health care facilities operated by the Medicaid program, and helps local and federal authorities with prosecutions.

A key component of the Office of the Attorney General’s mission is to secure justice for Texans by investigating and prosecuting criminal activities, including crimes of human trafficking, internet crimes against children, election fraud, and assisting local law enforcement in prosecutions and appeals.

 

HUMAN TRAFFICKING UNIT

• Tarrant County
On January 5 and 6, authorities assisted in a human trafficking victim rescue operation in Fort Worth. During the two-day operation, 25 subjects solicited sexual services. A male registered sex offender was arrested for Online Solicitation of a Minor. An additional male subject arrived and was arrested after narcotics were found on him.

• Tarrant County
During a victim recovery operation in Arlington on January 12 and 13, twenty-one (21) adult female victims of human trafficking were identified and offered services.

 

FUGITIVE APPREHENSION UNIT 

• Bandera County
Zane Ray Stuard
was arrested on January 13 for violating the conditions of his parole by being arrested for Unlawful Carry Weapon. Stuard is a Registered Sex Offender previously convicted of Indecency with a Child Sexual Contact – Felony 2nd Degree and was sentenced to 1 year on probation. He was also previously convicted of Aggravated Assault Causes Serious Bodily Injury and sentenced to 10 years in prison.  

• Bell County
Anthony Ryan Slaven
was arrested on January 5 for violating the conditions of his parole by being arrested for Assault Family Violence in July 2021. Slaven was a Registered Sex Offender. He was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child Felony 1st Degree in Bell County and of Unlawful Possession of Firearm by a Felon in Coryell County. 

• Bexar County
Andrew Anthony Lopez
, a Tango Orejon gang member, was arrested on January 3 for violating the conditions of his parole by failure to attend sex offender treatment classes. Lopez was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child in Bexar County and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. 

• Bexar County
Oscar Richard Sanders
was arrested on January 6 on an out-of-state warrant for a Sex Offense Against Child Fondling. The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force out of San Antonio assisted in this apprehension. 

• Bexar County
Reynaldo Espinoza
was arrested on January 10 for violating his parole by failing to report to a halfway house in San Antonio. Espinoza is a convicted sex offender previously convicted of Sexual Assault and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.  

• Bexar County
Joshua James Alvarez
was arrested on January 10 for violating the conditions of his parole by removing his monitor. Alvarez was previously convicted of Indecency with a Child Sexual Contact Felony – 2nd Degree and was sentenced to five years on probation. In 2018, his probation was revoked, and he was sentenced to five years in prison.  

• Bexar County
Chase Paul Garcia
was arrested on January 11 for an outstanding federal warrant for Probation Violation – Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Garcia was previously convicted of Certain Activities Relating to Material Constituting or Containing Child Pornography Possession and was sentenced to five years on probation. The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted in this arrest. 

• Bexar County
Daniel Anthony Dena
was arrested on January 12 for an outstanding federal warrant for Probation Violation – Smuggling Aliens and an outstanding warrant for Probation Violation – Driving Under the Influence of Liquor/Driving While Intoxicated. The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted in this arrest. 

• Bexar County
Leonard Esquivel Jr.
was arrested on January 11 for violating the conditions of his parole by having charges pending against him for Arson. Esquivel, a Tango Blast Gang Member, was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault – Felony 1st Degree and was sentenced to eight years in prison.  

• Bexar County
William Xavier Hinojosa
was arrested on January 14 for violating the conditions of his parole by technical violations. Hinojosa, a Tango Orejon Gang Member, was previously convicted of Manufacture Delivery of Controlled Substances – Penalty Group 1 – 4gm to 200gm, and sentenced to six years in prison. 

• Burnet County
David Joseph Raabe
was arrested on January 13 for failure to comply with mandated sex offender registration requirements and a corresponding Fail to Comply Sex Offender Duty to Register with Previous IAT 2nd Degree Felony warrant was issued. Raabe was previously convicted of Indecency with a Child Exposes – Felony 3rd Degree and was sentenced to five years on probation. At the time of his arrest, Raabe was in possession of methamphetamine, for which charges are pending to be filed.  

• Coleman County
Benjamin Wayne Bewley
was arrested on January 5 for violating the conditions of his parole by failing a mandatory drug test and by incurring monitor violations. Bewley was previously convicted of Murder Intentionally Causes Death in Tarrant County and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.  

• Dallas County
Ronnie Dean Davis
, an Aryan Circle Gang member, was arrested on January 4 for violating his parole by failing to comply with a mandatory curfew in Dallas. Davis was sentenced to 32 years in prison.

Treven Reed Kelley
was arrested on January 6 on a warrant for Sexual Assault of a Child.  

• Dallas County
Rachel Jean Hart
was arrested on January 7 for violating her parole by getting discharged from a mandatory treatment program and failing to pay a fine. Hart was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.  

• Dallas County
Michael Shawn Sargent
was arrested on January 11 for violating his parole by viewing pornography. Sargent was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Degory Marquine Thomas
was arrested on January 12 for an outstanding warrant for Indecency with a Child. 

• Dallas County
Juan Jose Reyna
was arrested on January 12 for an outstanding warrant for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child. 

• Galveston County
Juan Bernal Benavides
was arrested on January 4 for violating the terms of his parole by failing to report. Benavides was previously convicted of Aggravated Kidnapping with Intent to Violate or Abuse the Victim Sexually and was sentenced to 99 years in prison.  

• Galveston County
Armando Moreno
was arrested on January 6 on two outstanding warrants for Assault Family/Household Member Previous Conviction and Assault Family/Household Member Impede Breath/Circulation. The Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force assisted in this arrest. 

• Galveston County
Jaleel Dazuan Faison
, a Chances Make Champions Gang member, was arrested on January 6 on an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon. Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force assisted in this apprehension. 

• Galveston County
Destin Glen Saurpy
was arrested on January 11 for an outstanding warrant for DWI – 3rd or more. Saurpy is a confirmed Chances Make Champions and Lakeside Crips Gang Member. The Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force assisted in this apprehension.  

• Gregg County
Crystal Charlie Vanlandingham
was arrested on January 5 for failing to maintain sex offender registration requirements. Vanlandingham was previously convicted of Indecency with a Child Sexual Contact and was sentenced to three years in prison. Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force assisted with this arrest. 

• Harris County
Robert James Harvey
was arrested on January 4 for violating the terms of his parole by incurring a GPS monitor violation. Harvey was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and was sentenced to 26 years in prison.  

• Harris County
John Stephen Fain
was arrested on January 7 for violating the terms of his parole by absconding. Fain was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and sentenced to 12 years in prison. Fain is currently on parole for Failure to Comply with Registration Requirements. 

• Harris County
Claude Edward Toran
was arrested on January 6 for violating the terms of his parole by absconding. Toran was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault and was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Toran was on parole for Fail to Comply Sex Offender.

• Harris County
Ashton Dishuan Willis
was arrested on January 11 on outstanding warrants for Deadly Conduct – Discharge Firearm and a Probation Violation for Firearms Smuggling. Willis is a confirmed Chances Make Champions and Drillers Gang Member. The Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force assisted in this arrest. 

• Randall County
Russell Mathew Bounds
was arrested on January 5 for violating the conditions of his parole by acquiring a new criminal charge of Evading Arrest/Detention by Vehicle. Bounds was previously convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in a Weapons Free Zone and Evading Arrest/Detention by Vehicle in Randall County and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for both.  

• Smith County
Paul Wayne Howard
was arrested on January 12 for an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force assisted in this apprehension. 

• Tarrant County
James Daniel Griffin
was arrested on January 10 for violating his parole by failing polygraphs regarding sexual contact. Griffin was previously convicted of two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child in Tarrant County and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. 

• Tarrant County
Michael Brent Noble
was arrested on January 10 for violating his parole by failing to report. Noble was convicted of two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.  

• Travis County
Victoria Catarina Alejandro
was arrested on January 4 on an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon-Family. The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted with this apprehension. 

• Travis County
Matthew Noe Orozco
, a Gangster Disciples Gang member, was arrested on January 7 on outstanding federal warrants for Count 1 Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Count 3 Distribution of Marijuana, Count 9 Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Count 10 Possession of a Firearm While Under Indictment. The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted with this arrest. 

• Travis County
Jose Javier Alvarez
 was arrested on January 7 on outstanding federal warrants for Count 1 Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Marijuana, Count 2 Distribution of Cocaine, Count 3 Distribution of Cocaine, and Count 4 Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The United States Marshals Service assisted with this apprehension.  

• Travis County
Joe Anthony Gonzales
was arrested on January 7 for violating the conditions of his parole by absconding. Gonzales was previously convicted of Robbery Felony 2nd Degree in Hays County and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted with this arrest. 

• Travis County
Larance Jay Yarbrough
 was arrested on January 6 for violating the conditions of his parole by failure to abide by the rules. Yarbrough was previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault in Travis County and was sentenced to life in prison. 

• Travis County
Hassan Mohamed Saleh Jr.
was arrested on January 6 for violating the conditions of his parole by failure to charge his ankle monitor. Saleh was previously convicted of Sexual Assault Child Felony 2nd Degree in Bastrop County and was sentenced to five years in prison. Saleh was also convicted of Failure to Comply Sex Offender Duty to Register Life/Annual Felony – 3rd Degree in Bastrop County and was sentenced to three years in prison.  

• Travis County
Alex Edward Beck
was arrested on January 10 for violating the conditions of his parole by failing to report. Beck is a Registered Sex Offender previously convicted of Sexual Assault of a Child and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Beck is currently on parole for a 2018 Sex Offender Duty to Register Life / 90 Day conviction and was sentenced to four years in prison. 

• Tarrant County
Alan Anthony Apples
was arrested on January 6 for violating the conditions of his parole by failing to attend a mandatory class. Apples were previously convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child in Tarrant County and were sentenced to 40 years in prison.  

• Tarrant County
Dustin Ryan Smith
 was arrested on January 4 on outstanding warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Assault Family Violence and Assault Family Violence with a Previous Conviction. 

• Upshur County
Lindsay Morgan Richardson
was arrested on January 3 for violating her parole by failing to report and on additional outstanding warrants for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 Less than 1 gram and two warrants for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 3 Less Than 28 Grams. Richardson was previously convicted of Burglary of Habitation and sentenced to 13 years in prison. 

• Williamson County
Jordan Anthony Clarke
was arrested on January 5 on an out-of-state warrant for Robbery/Business/Gun – Robbery with a Weapon. The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted in this apprehension.

Edgar Axel Zamudio-Cortes
was arrested on January 3 on warrants for 2 Counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Knife or Cutting Instrument.

Michael Scott Perkins
was arrested on January 11 for an outstanding out of state warrant for Sex Offense Against Child Fondling/Sex Assault Child/1st Degree – Sexual Assault of a Child 13 Years of Age. The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted in this apprehension.
