San Marcos Public Library, Texas State University Partner For Free College Prep
The Collegiate G-Force Organization of Texas State University provides one-on-one assistance to anyone in the community wanting to pursue a degree in higher education or to find a new job.
The San Marcos Public Library and Texas State University are teaming up to offer free college preparation and mentoring Sundays from 1-6 p.m. at the library, 625 E. Hopkins, during the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District school year.
The Collegiate G-Force Organization of Texas State University provides one-on-one assistance to anyone in the community wanting to pursue a degree in higher education or to find a new job. Trained mentors assist in résumé creation and critique; ACT and SAT registration; and completing applications for college, financial aid, and scholarships.
“The public library is a great place to have this mentoring program because it makes our resources more accessible to the community,” said G-Force mentor Alana Zamora. “We’re able to offer extended days and hours outside our traditional sites at local high schools, and we can now offer our services to adult community members, not just high school students, who are looking to pursue higher education.”
