Hays County Commissioners Congratulate Gold Star 4-H Members
Some half a million urban, suburban and rural children participate from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds through the efforts of 22,000 volunteers who selflessly donate their time.
Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed the week of October 1-7 as National 4-H Week in Texas at its September 19 meeting and then congratulated three Hays County 4-H members who achieved Gold Star status.
The 4-H Youth Development Program has existed for 110 years, providing experience-based education for youngsters throughout the Lone Star State.
It provides a learning experience for the whole child, including head, heart, hands and health, helping young Texans develop life skills and attitudes that allow them to become self-directed, productive and contributing members of society.

Hays County 4-H Extension Agents Jason Mangold and Kate Blankenship introduced one of the three Gold Star Award recipients – Rebekah McDaniel of the Fancy Feathers 4-H Club. Two other recipients, Olivia Twining of the Dripping Springs 4-H Club and Connor Coltharp of the Wimberley 4-H Club were unable to be in Court Tuesday.
A rigorous schedule of maintaining academic grades while participating in programs as well as community events is necessary to be a Gold Star Award 4-Her. It’s the highest county level of achievement from 4-H.
