San Marcos Expects A September Completion Date For 2020 Street Overlay

The City of San Marcos Transportation Division of the Public Services Department expects to begin work on the remaining 2020 overlay projects on Monday, Aug. 31, with completion expected by Friday, Sept. 4, weather permitting.

The remaining projects include Hutchison between North and Guadalupe Streets and Hackberry, Pecan, and Crepe Myrtle Streets.

“Driving lanes, driveways, and business access will remain open, but motorists using these roadways may experience slight delays,” said Shawn Wolfshohl, Streets Maintenance Manager.

A combination of lane shifts and flagging operations will be used during the construction process to safely direct vehicles through the work zone. Motorists should drive slowly and use caution when traveling through the work zone. Motorists are advised to be aware of heavy equipment and construction workers in the street.

The street maintenance work is a component of the City’s Pavement Management Program.  This program utilizes a combination of preservation treatments to extend the life of roadways.

Proactive preventative maintenance can extend the life of pavement from 10 to 15 years and delay expensive reconstruction costs.

The total cost for these projects is $138,000 and the work will be completed by Lone Star Paving.
