Central Texas Medical Center Recognized For Patient Safety

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS –  Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) was among 14 hospitals recognized by its parent company, Adventist Health System (AHS), for excellence in quality and patient safety.

The acknowledgment took place at AHS’s Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer retreat and conference in Greensboro, Georgia.

Specifically, CTMC received accolades for Best Overall Infection Prevention based on clinical data results for Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) measures.

CTMC ranked as having the lowest overall Standardized Infection Ratio (SIR) among AHS’s hospitals with 165 beds or less.

A hospital’s SIR is the primary summary measure used by the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) to track Healthcare-Associated Infections at a national, state or local level over time.

The SIR adjusts for various facility and/or patient-level factors that contribute to HAI risk within each facility. For CTMC, the specific HAI types that are reported include:

• Two Surgical Site Infection Measures (SSI-COLO, SSI-HYST) for patients who have colon surgery or abdominal hysterectomies
• Two Device Related Infection Measures (CLABSI in ICU, CAUTI in ICU)) for patients who have central lines or Foley catheters – (CLABSI= Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infection and CAUTI= Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections)
• Two targeted Important Pathogens that can cause HAIs; C.Difficile and MRSA blood stream infections
