San Marcos Celebrates International Housekeeping Week

The San Marcos Convention & Visitor Bureau (SMCVB) is honored to recognize the professional housekeepers of San Marcos.

“Our housekeepers are vital in ensuring a clean, welcoming and safe experience for visitors in San Marcos,” said Denise Pardo, Destination Services Manager. “San Marcos would not be the well-known and loved destination we are without their hard work and dedication.”

There are 33 hotels and one bed and breakfast in San Marcos that employ 200 housekeepers who clean 534,499 rooms a year. Housekeepers serviced one million visitors in 2019 alone.

International Housekeeping Week is observed annually during the second week of September and was established in 1981 by International Executive Housekeepers Association, Inc.

The housekeeping profession is often referred to as the heart of house services and is one of the toughest and most important jobs for every hotel property.

“While housekeepers and the services they provide are always extremely important, the job they do has become even more essential during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rebecca Ybarra, Director of Destination Services. “We want to make sure, this year especially, they are recognized and appreciated for going the extra mile in keeping our visitors safe.”

The SMCVB would also like to thank San Marcos Premium Outlets and Tanger Outlet Center for their contributions to International Housekeeping Week activities.
