Texas International Wine Competition To Be Held November 18 & 19
Some of the wine industry’s most acclaimed experts will converge at the Vine Vault in downtown Austin on November 18th and 19th for Texas’s Inaugural International Wine Competition.
The competition will feature a blind tasting of 500 wines submitted from around the world with a premium focus on Texas wines.
The Texas International Wine Competition (TXIWC) was founded by Bonnie Villacampa, an international wine judge and co-founder of Baron de Villacampa, a wine brand from the Rioja region in Spain. Ms. Villacampa has judged at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition (FLIWC) in New York for more than 10 years.
Inspired by the strong showing of Texas wines and the charitable work of the FLIWC, Ms. Villacampa aspired to bring an international wine competition to the Texas Hill Country, and the Texas International Wine Competition was born.
The mission of the TXIWC is to bring attention to Texas as a prominent viticulture and wine-making region, and raise awareness and funds for children with disabilities.
In November, TXIWC will hold its first competition in Austin, the capitol of Texas and self-proclaimed “live music capitol of the world.”
The four-day event will include both a commercial and amateur wine competition, an open-to-the-public Food & Wine Festival with an Auction hosted by the Rotary Club of Kyle, and a tour of select Texas wineries for the wine judges and select sponsors.
In furtherance of our charitable mission, TXIWC has selected Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children as the organization benefiting from this year’s competition.
Peaceable Kingdom sits on 120 acres adjacent to the Lampasas River and serves over 5,000 children with chronic illnesses and special needs each year.
All our award-winning wines will be featured at several public events following the competition, including the Food & Wine Festival with an Auction on November 18th at the National Hispanic Institute in Maxwell, TX. The cost is $75 per person, VIP tickets starting at $500 for two.
