SAN MARCOS – The San Marcos Police Department received a $1,000 donation from Tanger Outlets, San Marcos, which will be used to help fund staff and officer training.

According to a Facebook post by SMPD, the donation will be used by the department’s new Peer Support Team, a group of SMPD officers and staff that received certification earlier this month following two and a half days of training.

“There is a direct correlation between unaddressed acute and chronic trauma and officer misconduct,” said SMPD Chief Stan Standridge. “By investing in our Peer Support Team, we are also directly investing in our community and our Police Department employees.”

Tanger Outlets also helped SMPD operate their annual Blue Santa Toy Drive this year by allowing them to use an empty store to distribute thousands of toys to families in San Marcos this Christmas season.
