Miller Student, Samuel Vargas Raises Over $637.50 For Their Choir Program

Miller Middle School 7th grader Samuel Vargas went “above and beyond” after a discussion at the September Miller Choir Booster Meeting. One of booster goals for the year was to raise money for the choir program.
Choir Director Mario Contreras said that the choir budget is minimal; therefore, they rely heavily on the Choir Booster Club to maintain a robust choir program. He said, “Our booster club pays for accompanists, classroom supplies, registration fees, UIL contest fees, subsidize costs for end of year trips, etc.”
The choir needs some basic classroom supplies, and one item under discussion was the purchase of a class set of music staff boards with dry erase markers. Contreras said, “I like the idea because it’s environmentally friendly, and I can get a quick assessment of a students’ music theory comprehension.”
Samuel Vargas also liked this idea and took it upon himself to raise the money needed to purchase the music staff boards. Samuel went to San Marcos businesses and courteously asked managers and owners if they were willing to donate the money to meet this goal. After just a short couple of weeks, Samuel raised all of the money needed to purchase the classroom set.
Contreras added, “I am left speechless. Never in my years have I seen a student go above and beyond for a program that he is truly dedicated to. I thank Samuel from the bottom of my heart, as do all of his choir peers presently and for years to come. What an awesome guy!”
The Miller Middle School choir also thanks the local businesses who supported Vargas in his fundraising efforts.
