SMPD Family Greets Officer Mueller On His Way Home From The Hospital

Staff Reports

The San Marcos Police Department welcomed a hero home on April 29.

Officer Justin Mueller was released from Ascension Seton Hays on Wednesday after being treated for gunshot wounds sustained on April 18.

According to SMPD, Mueller’s shift greeted him at the hospital doors and escorted his vehicle past the police state where officers, many local public safety entities, and city of San Marcos staff greeted him with cheers, applause, and homemade signs.

“It was a beautiful moment of love and solidarity among the SMPD family,” the department said.

Officer Franco Stewart remains in the hospital at this time, but officials said he is making continued progress.

Funeral arrangements for Officer Justin Putnam, who was killed on April 18, have not been released as of yet.

According to SMPD, Putnam’s family has decided to wait and have a full service sometime after COVID-19 restrictions are further lifted.

Putnam’s vehicle will remain at City Hall until this Saturday, May 2, for residents to visit and leave a memento. After Saturday, it will be returned to patrol.
