Public Invited To Media Roundtable Wednesday

San Marcos downtown, other local business owners and the general public are invited to a roundtable discussion on effective media outreach with local journalists at the San Marcos Main Street Program Office Wednesday.

The San Marcos Main Street Program will host the Meet the Media Coffee Talk on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The roundtable discussion, moderated by San Marcos Communications Director Kristi Wyatt, will focus on techniques that small businesses can use to reach local audiences through local media outlets.

Panelists will include Jillian Beck, managing editor for the San Marcos Daily Record; Rick Koch, editor of SMTX Magazine; Brad Rollins, editor and publisher of the San Marcos Mercury; Odus Evbagharu, editor-in-chief of The University Star; Brett Thorne, editor of the San Marcos-Buda-Kyle edition of Community Impact Newspaper; and Eric Bonar, advertising and marketing director of San Marcos Corridor News. Though the discussion will focus on downtown businesses in particular, the general public is welcome to this free event.

On Monday, Feb. 2 at noon, Main Street Program staff will hold a Marketing to Locals workshop detailing additional techniques businesses can use to reach community members, students and visitors. The cost for the workshop is $5 per person for downtown business owners and employees, and $25 for the general public. Lunch will be provided at the workshop, and advance reservations are required. Tickets are on sale now at www.sanmarcostx.gov/downtowntrainings.

The training is the first of a series of upcoming spring workshops designed to provide relevant training on a variety of topics for downtown merchants, including storefront design, finance, social media and more.

Both events will be held at the new Main Street Program office at 317 N. LBJ Drive. For questions, please contact the Main Street Program at 512.393.8430 or email mainstreet@sanmarcostx.gov.
