Buda city officials are reviewing design plans for a $19.8 million upgrade of a wastewater treatment plant to serve the city west of Interstate 35 with a goal of beginning work by the end of this summer.

The project was divided into three phases that began with planning and designing the upgrades in the first phase. The second phase of the upgrade increased the capacity of the plant from .95 million gallons per day (MGD) to 1.5 MGD.

A symmetrical expansion of the current system is expected to bring the capacity to 3.5 MGD once the third phase of the wastewater plant project is completed.

Once a final review of specifications and design documents is completed, city officials plan to seek bids as soon as the end of this month for the treatment plant project.

Construction could begin as early as August or September and is expected to be completed in two years.
