SMHS Students Recognized At National HOSA Conference

Four San Marcos High School students traveled to Nashville, Tennessee the week of June 21-June 26, to compete and be recognized at the HOSA Future Health Professionals 2016 International Leadership Conference. They were Kylie Contreras, Jocelyn Payan, Juliette Garza, and Daniel Day.
Kylie Contreras competed in the Medical Reading event, where she placed 5th overall.
Jocelyn Payan represented the San Marcos High School HOSA chapter for their recognition for money raised for the 2016 National Service Project benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Juliette Garza and Daniel Day were both nationally recognized and presented with the Barbara James Service Award at the Bronze Level for each obtaining over 100 hours of community service.
Itzel Osornia and Emily Sivilay qualified but were not able to participate in the conference. However, both were nationally recognized with the Barbara James Service Award: Itzel being recognized at the Bronze Level with over 100 hours of community service, and Emily being recognized at the Silver Level with over 175 hours of community service.
Teacher and HOSA sponsor Ashley Williams said, “These students put in a lot of hard work throughout the year to make it to the HOSA International Leadership Conference and their hard work and dedication has been nationally recognized.”
