San Marcos City Council to discuss cost of utilities and possible amendments to council meeting rules

SAN MARCOS — The San Marcos City Council will meet on Tuesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. to discuss many agenda items including the cost of utilities, current rules of decorum and requiring all council members to be at the dais during meetings. Among other items, council members will consider installing speed cushions on Franklin Drive, supporting a reconstruction project at the San Marcos Regional Airport and approving appointments to boards and commissions. 

Council members will discuss the cost of city utilities and current city council rules of decorum. The council will discuss the use of Roberts Rules of Order, an adaptation of the rules and practice of the United States Congress to the needs of non-legislative societies. A discussion about all council members returning to in-person meetings in San Marcos City Hall will also be held. 

The City Council will discuss authorizing the installation of speed cushions in both directions in the 500 through 1200 blocks of Franklin Drive. Additionally, the council will vote on reducing the speed limit from 30 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour in the Vista De Los Santos neighborhood. 

Council will also consider the approval of a resolution to support the taxiway Charlie Reconstruction Project at the San Marcos Regional Airport and authorizing the City’s participation in the Project with the Texas Department of Transportation’s Aviation Division by contributing 10% of construction costs in the estimated amount of $526,050.

On their non-consent agenda, the council will discuss approving a Memorandum of Understanding to extend the current Meet and Confer Agreement between the San Marcos Professional Firefighters Association and the City of San Marcos for one year to September 30, 2023. Additionally, the council will discuss providing a 2% base pay salary increase for firefighters beginning October 1, 2022.

City Council will discuss adopting a revised Template for Standard Bylaws for City Boards and Commissions. Additionally, they will consider appointments to the Citizen Utility Advisory Board, Convention and Visitors Bureau Board, Economic Development San Marcos Board, Human Services Advisory Board, Neighborhood Commission, San Marcos Industrial Development Corporation and the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
