San Marcos CISD Approves Purchase Of Additional 100 Wi-Fi Hotspots

Staff Reports

The San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District’s board of trustees approved the purchase of an additional 100 wi-fi hot spots for students at a meeting on April 20.

On April 17, the district informed parents, per Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement, its campuses would remain closed, and students would finish the rest of the year through At-Home Learning.

In a letter to parents, Cardona said it had become clear that it will be in the best interest of the district’s students and staff that San Marcos CISD continues at-home learning for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

Trustees began discussing the potential purchase of additional wi-fi hot spots to help provide internet access to students of lower-income families, who did not have it in March.

During a special meeting on March 19, the district purchased 500 hotspots for households without internet access to ensure SMCISD students were able to access their at-home learning materials and online classes.

The latest purchase of 100 hotspots will cost the district $16,500, according to the board book.

In other news, the board authorized the purchase of device repair parts for students and teacher laptops; the district will pay $10,000 for the laptops and repair parts.
