TRAFFIC ALERT: Weekly Traffic, Road Construction Update For IH-35

While construction is tough on everyone, TxDOT is trying to do everything it can to minimize disruptions. TxDOT knows you’ve got to get where you need to go.

 

I-35 FROM STASSNEY LANE TO WILLIAM CANNON DRIVE

The project will reconstruct the bridge structures at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, as well as the frontage road bridge over Williamson Creek.

New U-turn bridges will be added in both directions at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, and the I-35 mainlanes will be widened to incorporate shoulders and extended entrance/exit lanes to allow for better merging. Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements are also being made, and new safety lighting is being installed.   • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between Battle Bend Blvd & Stassney Ln 9 a.m. Monday, June 5 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 5
  • Southbound I-35 right lane closed between William Cannon Dr & Chaparral Rd Daily 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, June 5 through Thursday, June 8
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road lane closed between Stassney Ln & William Cannon Dr 8 p.m. Monday, June 5 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 6
  • Alternating southbound lanes closed between US 290/SH 71 & Slaughter Ln 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 7

CONSTRUCTION PHASING

  • Phase 1: (currently in this phase)

I-35 AT OLTORF STREET

Improvements include the reconstruction of the Oltorf Street bridge, improving entrance/exit ramps and frontage roads, constructing new extended entrance/exit lanes for mainlanes and ramps, and adding U-turns in both directions at Oltorf Street. Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made along the I-35 frontage roads in each direction within the project limits.

PROJECT ACTIVITY

Closures are weather permitting and updated on Tuesdays and Fridays.

  • Northbound I-35 reduced to one lane between Woodward St & Woodland Ave.
  • The entrance ramp from Woodward St closed nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, June 4 through Wednesday, June 7.
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between Algarita Ave to Oltorf St 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 6 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 Northbound I-35 Woodland Ave exit #232B closed Until June 2017.

CONSTRUCTION PHASING

° Widen northbound and southbound I-35 mainlanes for extended entrance/exit lanes

° Begin northbound frontage road and Oltorf Street entrance ramp improvements

  • Phase 2:

I-35 AT FM 3406

The intersection of FM 3406 and the I-35 frontage roads are being improved, and the FM 3406 bridge over I-35 is being reconstructed.

PROJECT ACTIVITY

Closures are weather permitting and updated on Tuesdays and Fridays.

  • Southbound I-35 reduced to one lane under FM 3406 bridge
  • Nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, June 4 until Wednesday, June 7

FUNDING 

  • Construction cost: $12.4 million

SCHEDULE 

  • Construction start: March 2017
  • Anticipated construction completion: Spring 2019, weather permitting

CONTRACTOR: Flatiron Constructors Inc.

I-35 FROM US 79 TO SH 45 NORTH

New braided ramps (where one ramp crosses over the other) are being constructed along the northbound I-35 mainlanes between Hester’s Crossing and RM 620 to eliminate merging conflicts.

The northbound and southbound intersections of US 79 and the I-35 frontage roads are also being reconstructed to add a third left-turn for westbound US 79.

PROJECT ACTIVITY 

Closures are weather permitting and updated on Tuesdays and Fridays.

  • Southbound I-35 right lane closed at various locations between Howard Ln & Rundberg Ln. Various exits will also close nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, June 4 through Wednesday, June 7.
  • Northbound I-35 right lane closed past The Lakes Blvd daily 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, June 5 through Friday, June 9.
  • I-35 exit ramps in both directions on SH 45N will close. Use previous ramps and follow frontage road to reach I-35. Nightly closures from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, June 4 through Monday June 5.
  • Various northbound I-35 lane closures between SH 45 & RM 620. The entrance ramp from Hesters Crossing Rd will close. A new temporary ramp will open Thursday morning from 9 p.m. Sunday, June 4 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 5.
