April 16-23 is National Infant Immunization Week

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed April 16-23 as National Infant Immunization Week in Hays County and urged citizens to make sure that their infants and children, as well as adults, are protected from diseases that are preventable.

County Judge Bert Cobb, M.D., noted that the United States has the safest, most effective vaccines available and that immunizations should be done according to established timelines. There are 14 vaccine-preventable diseases that children should be immunized against by age two.

Local Health Department Director Clint Garza told the Court that Hays County Local Health Department works with Live Oak Health Partners to ensure that everyone in Hays County has access to vaccines, whether through their primary care physician or the Local Health Department Live Oak Clinic.

Adults who need vaccinations and who don’t have insurance can take advantage of the Adult Safety Net Vaccine Program, while children can participate in the Texas Vaccine for Children Program if the child receives CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Plan) benefits, is eligible for Medicaid or whose family meets low-income eligibility requirements.
