Help TxDot Choose A New Look And Feel For I-35 Improvements

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Transportation is working on safety and mobility improvements for I-35 through the Capital Area. This includes over 40 projects planned to address congestion and enhance safety along and across I-35 without wholesale reconstruction of the corridor. In an effort to ensure we improve not only the technical aspects of I-35, but the visual ones as well, TxDOT and its partners are developing guidelines for aesthetic treatments from Rundberg Lane to Woodland Avenue.

Citizens can help choose how some of these projects will look by sharing their feedback.

An aesthetics plan helps promote a cohesive approach for aesthetic treatments along I-35 and ensures the project designs are as visually pleasing as possible, while prioritizing safety and mobility for all users. Aesthetics are only a fraction of total project costs and include visual elements like hardscape, retaining walls, lighting, landscape, railings, etc.

A public survey is now open to allow the community to vote on their favorite aesthetic concept on I-35. The winning concept will become the basis for I-35 aesthetic guidelines for projects that may be constructed in the future along I-35 from Rundberg Lane to Woodland Avenue.

Earlier this year, TxDOT held an online survey seeking input on how, when, and why travelers used I-35. Citizens also had a chance to provide input on the themes it would like to see incorporated into the aesthetic guidelines. From these survey results, the I-35 Aesthetics Working Group and TxDOT worked together to develop these three current concepts.

Visit the online survey for additional details and renderings of each of the three aesthetic concepts being considered. The survey will close on Aug. 9, 2016.
