Hays Co. Commissioners Court Approves Support For Cypress Creek

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Following a presentation from Scott Johnson, a Wimberley Valley resident who chairs a stakeholders committee for the Cypress Creek Watershed Protection Plan, the Hays County Commissioners Court unanimously authorized a letter of support for the plan to be sent to the Meadows Foundation for Water and the Environment for implementation and funding. The plan calls Cypress Creek “the lifeblood of the Wimberley Valley and Jacob’s Well.”

“This comprehensive review and recommendations report will advise our current and future elected officials at all levels of government about the effectiveness of our ordinances in mitigating nonpoint source pollution,” according to the letter. The Court also acknowledged the study’s inclusion of green infrastructure development needs, water quality monitoring and storm water planning and assessment studies.

The letter also confirms the Court’s past and future willingness to support the plan through in-kind donations of Court and staff time to assist with the plan development and implementation.

In the letter, County Judge Bert Cobb, M.D., noted, “Hays County has been actively engaged in the watershed protection planning process over the last seven years, and we are enthusiastically anticipating this next phase which will protect Cypress Creek for our future generations.”
