Main Street Program Improves Vision For Downtown

The Main Street Advisory Board has drafted a new vision statement that aims to steer the downtown district of San Marcos into a culturally vibrant destination for the community and local businesses.

The vision statement, “To foster a downtown that is a unique and culturally vibrant destination, where local businesses thrive and people of all ages can connect, create and celebrate,” was developed by the Board to reflect the program’s mission and the work it carries out in the heart of San Marcos.

Supporting local business in the downtown district has been a long-term goal of Main Street since 1986. The new vision statement deliberately aims to support businesses and provide an atmosphere where they can thrive.

Board members went on a retreat to Taylor and Georgetown in May and began crafting their new vision for the Main Street Program’s future.

“The Main Street Approach relies on the passion of the professionals and volunteers who make up the Main Street community,” said newly appointed Main Street Advisory Board chair Debbie Harvey. “I’m very pleased with our new succinct, focused and notable vision statement of what we see as an ongoing endeavor to a successful downtown in our growing city. Kudos to all of those involved!”

The Main Street Program is celebrating 30 years of being active in the community of downtown San Marcos by rolling out a line of events this fall and winter to inspire residents of all ages to come enjoy the heart of the city.

“It may take a village to raise a child,” said Main Street Manager Samantha Armbruster, “but it takes an entire city to create a vibrant downtown.”
