BREAKING: Main Break Closes Hopkins Between Bishop, Johnson

City crews repaired a water main break that closed Hopkins Street between Bishop and Johnson Streets, and with motorists being detoured to San Antonio and Belvin Streets. The street closure will continue through much of the day until crews finish repairing damage on the roadway caused during the main break.

A six-inch main broke in several places over a 50-ft. span of the pipe on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at about 5:30 p.m. Water/Waste Water Utility crews worked through the night, and the road closure is expected to last most of the day Thursday because of the complex nature of the break and subsequent cleanup.

Approximately 243 customers in the area of the break lost water service for 2-3 hours Thursday during the repairs.

A precautionary boil water notice was issued per Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulation to water customers affected by the break soon after service was restored. The notice was sent via telephone to affected customers through the City’s emergency notification system.

The City is investigating the cause of the break.
