TRAFFIC ALERT: Interstate 35 Lanes Closing At Slaughter Creek For Bridge Construction

Capital Excavation is replacing the nearly 60-year old structure as part of a $9.2 million contract. Road signs have been placed alerting drivers of the closure.

The Texas Department of Transportation will close Interstate 35 at the Slaughter Creek overpass in alternating directions this Friday and Saturday nights to erect concrete beams for the reconstruction of the bridge.

The I-35 mainlanes will be closed and traffic detoured to the frontage roads in both directions at exit 226 while crews and cranes lift and place the large beams.

The closure will run from 9 p.m. until 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, April 28 and 29, weather permitting.

The closure will affect southbound motorists on Friday night and northbound motorists on Saturday night. Traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads during the closure. Ramps and mainlanes will be reopened as work is completed.

Drivers can cross I-35 at either Onion Creek Parkway or Slaughter Lane. The Slaughter Creek overpass was demolished last June to make way for a new, wider bridge, including a south-to-northbound U-turn bridge.

The project will improve mobility and enhance safety along I-35. Work also includes widening the southbound I-35 frontage road to two lanes through the Slaughter Creek intersection, as well as installing safety lighting from Slaughter Lane to Onion Creek Parkway.

Motorists should consider alternate routes or allow extra time to travel through this area during the affected hours, as delays are expected. TxDOT asks the traveling public to be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.
