I-35 CORRIDOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

SUNDAY 6/24 – SATURDAY 6/30



I-35 FROM STASSNEY LANE TO WILLIAM CANNON DRIVE

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The project will reconstruct the bridge structures at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, as well as the frontage road bridge over Williamson Creek.

New U-turn bridges will be added in both directions at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, and the I-35 mainlanes will be widened to incorporate shoulders and extended entrance/exit lanes to allow for better merging.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements are also being made, and new safety lighting is being installed.

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between William Cannon Dr. and Nelms Dr. | Beginning Monday, June 11 through the end of August 2018, weather permitting

 

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed between Stassney Ln. and William Cannon Dr. exit. The William Cannon Dr. exit will also close. | 8 PM until 5 AM Sunday, June 24 through Thursday, June 28

 

  • Alternating northbound I-35 frontage road closures at Williamson Creek. | 9 AM until 3 PM Monday, June 25 through Friday, June 29

I-35 AT OLTORF ST.

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Improvements include the reconstruction of the Oltorf Street bridge, improving entrance/exit ramps and frontage roads, constructing new extended entrance/exit lanes for mainlanes and ramps, and adding U-turns in both directions at Oltorf Street.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made along the I-35 frontage roads in each direction within the project limits.

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed as needed between Woodward St. and Royal Hill Rd. | 8 PM until 5 AM Monday, June 25

 

  • Southbound I-35 left lane closed between St. Edwards Dr. and Woodward St. | 9 AM until 3 PM Thursday, June 28

 

  • Northbound I-35 left lane closed between SH 71 and Woodward St. | 9 AM until 3 PM Monday, June 25 through Wednesday, June 27

 

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between Oltorf St. and Woodward St. Watch for flaggers. | 9 AM until 3 PM Monday, June 25 through Friday, June 29

 

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed between Woodward St. | 9 AM until 3 PM Thursday, June 28

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LN. TO US 290 EAST

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project includes main-lanes and frontage road reconstruction and the addition of three new flyovers at US 183.

The project also includes reconstruction of the St. Johns Avenue Bridge, the addition of frontage road U-turns on both sides, intersection bypass lanes under St. Johns Avenue in both directions, extended entrance/exit lanes, and ramp and shoulder improvements.

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between Huntland Dr. and US 290 E. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, June 17 through Friday, June 22

 

  • Eastbound St. Johns Ave. reduced to one lane between Duval St. and I-35. | 9 AM until 3 PM Tuesday, June 26 through Thursday, June 28

 

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed as needed between Delmar Ave. and Blackson Ave. | 7 AM until 7 PM Saturday, June 23 and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, June 25

 

  • The north and southbound I-35 left lane closed between US 183 and US 290 E. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, June 24 through Thursday, June 28

 

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between Huntland Dr. and US 290 E. | 9 PM until 5 AM Monday, June 25 through Thursday, June 28 and 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, June 29

I-35 TO FM 3406 (Old Settlers Blvd)

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The intersection of FM 3406 and the I-35 frontage roads are being improved, and the FM 3406 bridge over I-35 is being reconstructed.

The FM 3406 (Old Settlers Blvd) bridge will close to eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic will detour to the newly constructed U-turn Bridge. | Until summer 2018, weather permitting.

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane between RM 1431 and Wolle Ln. | 8 AM until 5 PM Saturday, June 23 through Wednesday, June 27

 

  • Various southbound I-35 closures between RM 1431 and FM 3406. Exit #254 will also be closed. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, June 24 through Tuesday, June 26

I-35 FROM RM 1431 TO FM 3406

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Two ramps on the southbound I-35 frontage roads between RM 1431 and FM 3406 are being reconstructed and reversed to address traffic congestion and improve I-35 frontage road and mainlane operations.

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane between RM 1431 and Wolle Ln. | 8 AM until 5 PM Saturday, June 23 through Wednesday, June 27

 

  • Various southbound I-35 closures between RM 1431 and FM 3406. Exit #254 will also be closed. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, June 24 through Tuesday, June 26

I–35 FROM US 79 TO SH 45 NORTH

PROJECT OVERVIEW | New braided ramps (where one ramp crosses over the other) are being constructed along the northbound I-35 mainlanes between Hester’s Crossing and RM 620 to eliminate merging conflicts.

The northbound and southbound intersections of US 79 and the I-35 frontage roads are also being reconstructed to add a third left-turn for westbound US 79.

  • Various northbound I-35 frontage road closures between Gattis School Rd. and RM 620. | 8 AM until 3 PM Monday, June 25 through Friday, June 29

 

  • McNeil Rd. closed in both directions under I-35. | 8 PM until 5 AM Monday, June 25 through Wednesday, June 27

I-35 MAINTENANCE PROJECTS

Closures are weather permitting

  • Southbound I-35 reduced to one lane between FM 2001 and RM 150. Expect alternating closures for exits 213, 215, & 217. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, June 24 through Monday, June 25

 

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road closed between Airport Blvd. and E. 41st St. Traffic will detour to the upper level. | 2 AM until 4 AM Monday, June 25

 

  • Alternating closures for the 6th, 7th and 8th St. underpasses. 6th St. will close Monday and Tuesday, 7th St. on Wednesday and 8th St. on Thursday. Use nearest crossovers. | 9 PM until 5 AM Monday, June 25 through Thursday, June 29
