USDA To Provide $2.36B To Texas Farmers, Ranchers To Recover From Disasters
Those eligible for the disaster assistance are limited to farmers and ranchers in counties that experienced hurricanes or wildfires that were declared disaster areas by President Trump in 2017.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that its Farm Service Agency will provide up to $2.36 billion in assistance to ranchers and farmers in Texas to help recover from the hurricanes and wildfires in 2017.
The funding was authorized by the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018. The new 2017 Wildfires and Hurricanes Indemnity Program (WHIP) is scheduled to begin by July 16.
Those eligible for the disaster assistance are limited to farmers and ranchers in counties that experienced hurricanes or wildfires that were declared disaster areas by President Trump in 2017.
The new assistance program also will determine compensation by the producer’s individual losses rather than an average of losses of the area.
Agricultural producers who bought risk protection such as crop insurance or participated in the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program will receive higher payments and will agree to obtain future risk protection.
