City Calls for Artist Proposals for Traffic Control Box Murals

The City of San Marcos invites artists to apply for a grant to create “mini murals” on traffic control boxes around the city.

The Traffic Control Box Art program is designed to enhance the city by adding works of art to the streetscape on surfaces that are often targeted by graffiti vandals. Winning designs will be digitized and printed on vinyl wraps on traffic control boxes at various locations throughout the city.

Submissions mailed or hand-carried to Recreation Manager Lisa Morris at 401 E. Hopkins, San Marcos TX 78666. Submissions should be delivered or postmarked no later than May 13.

The project should meet the following objectives:
· Include all visible sides of the traffic signal box

· Be thoughtful about having large areas on their artwork giving vandals a space to deface the work

To be considered, applicant must submit the following:

· Current resume

· Contact information for two professional references

· Design proposal on the template provided

· Typed statement briefly explaining your design (one page maximum)

Artists may submit more than one design proposal. A statement for each design must be submitted.
Do not bind application materials or put them in a notebook or binder.

If selected, artists will receive $150 per box.
