SMCISD – Computer Science Team District Champs for 2nd Year in a Row

San Marcos High School is off and running in the UIL Academic Competition that will continue into this week. On Saturday, April 2, 2016, the SMHS Computer Science Team was crowned District Champions for the second year in a row.  At the competition held in Floresville, the team of J.D. Brown, Liam McMains, and Silas Andrews earned First Place.  In addition, they placed individually: McMains taking 1st place, Brown placing 5th, and Andrews earning 6th in the District.

According to their coach and computer science teacher, Donna Atkins, the individual winners took an written test that was graded and ranked, and medals were awarded for the first six places. On a team basis, the students did hands-on programming. The total from this was added to the total individual scores to determine team winners. Medalists received ribbons individually, with a plaque for the team.

We’re looking forward to more reports this week from the SMHS UIL Academic team!
