TxDot Awards Contracts for Austin Area Road Work
AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Transportation is moving ahead with a series of projects to increase safety and highway durability after the Texas Transportation Commission recently awarded contracts for work in the Austin District.
Seven projects are aimed at increasing visibility and warning advisories for drivers along US 290 in Bastrop County. This includes safety lighting between SH 95 and Loop 109 in Elgin, between Dallas Street and US 77 and between FM 141 and CR 226 in Giddings. The $2 million contract includes a flashing beacon at SH 21 and FM 812 to alert drivers to the intersection, as well as safety features including guide signs and delineators on three county roads:Cottletown Road, Old McDade Road and Old Sayers Road. Austin Traffic Signal Construction Co. will begin the work in late spring/early summer.
BPI-Bauerle Partners, Inc. will install turn lanes and new traffic signals on FM 734 (Parmer Lane) at Legendary Circle in Austin, due to increased traffic in the area. The $839,000 project is planned to start later this year.
Also in Travis County, Angel Brothers Holdings Corporation will put a new driving surface on the Loop 1 frontage roads between Parmer Lane and Waters Park Drive. The resurfacing will smooth the section which sees heavy traffic daily. Work on the $788,000 job should begin in a few months.
On South Congress Avenue, Dan Williams Company will replace the railings on the bridge over Williamson Creek. The new rails will meet improved specifications for railing safety. Work on the $293,000 job will take a little over two months and will start mid-year.
TxDOT is also doing its part to help the city of Austin improve the quality of life for the neighborhoods adjacent to the I-35/Rundberg Lane intersection. Encino Landscape will install brick pavers and refinish the concrete columns on the overpass, as well as plant trees and shrubs to beautify the area. The $321,000 project will take about six months to complete.
Most people are unaware that TxDOT helps other state agencies such as Texas Parks & Wildlife with road work because of our expertise. Ramming Paving has won a $173,000 contract to perform resurfacing work on the parking lot of TP&W department’s headquarters later this year. The job will also include some landscaping.
Lone Star Paving received the final contract in this group for repairing and resurfacing eight roads in five counties. The $3.3 million agreement calls for work on SH 29 in Williamson County between Liberty Hill and Seward Junction, US 183 in Burnet County, RM 152 in Llano County, US 87 in Gillespie County, and SH 71 and US 377 in Mason County. Crews will repair damaged areas and seal coat the road over the next year.
