San Marcos offers additional brush drop-off for winter storm cleanup

Staff Reports

The City of San Marcos will host a brush waste drop-off event on Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Brush drop-off is typically held on the second Saturday of each month, but the City decided to offer an additional brush-drop off day to help residents clear yard debris that resulted from February’s winter storm.

“We realize residents have begun to assess the tree, shrub, and plant damage caused by the storm,” said Community Enhancement Initiatives Manager Amy Thomaides. “An extra opportunity to drop off brush will help residents clean up their yards before the weather warms up.”

The drop-off site can be reached by taking the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter entrance, 750 River Road, and following the signs. Green waste that will be accepted includes tree or brush trimmings, leaves, and grass clippings. Brush containing barbed wire or other metals will not be accepted. Residents are invited to load and take ground-up mulch as available.

The additional drop-off is not a Community Clean-Up event. No furniture, lumber, appliances, tires, or electronics will be accepted.

The service is open only to residential solid waste customers in San Marcos. Residents can also use their curbside green waste carts and up to 12 paper yard bags to dispose of yard waste.
