Breaking: State Officials Respond To Terror Threats

Texas Government officials are investigating a possible al-Qaida terror attack on three states.

Governor Greg Abbott released a statement today after sources told CBS News of potential terror attacks the night before the election. Texas, New York and Virginia are believed to be possible targets for the attacks. However, specific locations were not mentioned.

“My office is working with law enforcement officials, and we are continuing to monitor the situation in close coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety,” Abbott said. “Texans should go about their daily lives as usual, but remain vigilant over the next several days and report any suspicious activity to state or local law enforcement. The State of Texas will continue to do everything it can to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.”

The information is being assessed for credibility. As of yet, there is no confirmation that the information is legitimate, but the Department of Public Safety and the federal government are taking the matter seriously. DPS said they do not usually discuss security issues, but the department is working with other law enforcement and intelligence officials as well as their Joint Terrorism Task Force partners. Officials will continue to monitor events that will impact public safety.

“As always, every citizen has an important role to play in helping to thwart illicit activity, and we encourage Texans to remain vigilant,” DPS stated. “If anyone observes any suspicious activity, they are urged to contact their local authorities or report it through Texas’ iWatch program at www.iwatchtx.org or by calling 1-844-643-2251.”
