Tornado Spotted In San Marcos
 
As of 5:30 p.m.:
 
A tornado was spotted near SH 80 and HWY 21 Monday evening. Residents are being asked to stay indoors and shelter in place.
 
Another tornado was reported at Rancho Vista in Guadalupe County at 5:35 p.m. No reports on damage or injuries are available.
 
Storms are also swelling the Blanco River and tributaries to the San Marcos River. Localized flooding has been reported along River Road and Conway Drive near the Blanco River, as well as Sessom Drive. All of River Road is now closed, and residents are being asked to shelter in place because of the tornado activity in the area.
 
As of 4 p.m.:
 
  • Officials have not identified the man found deceased in northern San Marcos Sunday afternoon
  • Twelve people who were in Wimberley during the floods remain missing
  • The area is still experiencing cable, telephone and internet service outages
  • Active search operations have ended, but rescue personnel and equipment are at the ready
  • Volunteer organizations, as well as individuals and companies wishing to donate specialized equipment should email information to hayscoflood@co.hays.tx.us. A separate email will be issued Tuesday for individuals wishing to help with relief efforts.
  • Officials will open volunteer resource centers tomorrow in San Marcos and Wimberley

REMARKS FROM MAYOR STEVE THURBER OF WIMBERLEY
 
The Mayor thanked the media, first responders and relief workers for their assistance, and the citizens of Wimberley for their community spirit. He noted that school is canceled for Tuesday.
 
He said he and council members have been out assessing needs in the community and that debris removal would begin Tuesday and that the First Baptist Church (15951 Winters Mill Parkway) is now open for evacuees.
