Early voting ends Friday, October 31st, and the results so far show San Marcos as having a very low turnout.
I am not sure why some individuals seem to either wait until the last minute, or do not vote at all. When I go vote, I feel more patriotic than any other time during the year. I am proud to be an American, and feel blessed that in this great country, we have the freedom to be able to actually vote for the people and issues that are important to our families and us.
All of us realize that life gets in the way sometimes and schedules are very hectic these days. Our world moves so much faster since the computer, internet, smart phone, and social media way of life, but all of us need to remember that voting is an important part of being an American. It does not matter if you are a democrat or a republican, at the end of the day we are all Americans.
Personally, I used to hate early voting and always wanted to wait until that first Tuesday of November, but the older I get, the busier I get. When San Marcos and Hays County started offering early voting at the new Hays County Government Center, I found that it was easier for me, to run in and vote while I am out doing errands. I always feel like a proud American after voting, and as I walk across the parking lot to my car, I find myself smiling and feeling like I personally, did what I believe was the right thing for our city, county, state and our country.
It is personally important to me to take a moment after voting, get into my car, and thank the good Lord that I am blessed to live in a free society, which allows us all the opportunity to not only vote for, whomever or whatever we believe in, but where we each have the freedom to speak about it as well.
Below is a link that will take you directly to the Hays County Website for the last 3 days of the early voting schedule, or if you would rather wait until next Tuesday, your correct polling places with available maps. You will also find your official Hays County Sample Ballot, which also includes the cities of San Marcos, Buda, Wimberley, Austin, and Travis County’s sample ballot. Kyle and Dripping Springs have federal, state, and county elections only. Please take some time to print and study these important documents before you to go vote. *(Disclaimer: please remember that the above-mentioned sample ballot and it is just that, a sample and could change depending on your precinct.)
I know some misplace or forget to bring their Voter Id Cards when they go to vote, and if this happens to you, don’t stress about it, as the only thing you absolutely need is an approved ID, which they will ask to see it either way. They have always asked for an ID if you forget your Voter ID Card.
They make it so easy for all us to do something that is so very important, I feel proud to be an American, and who knows….you just might walk out smiling as well.
