Five Fire Departments Battle Grass Fire Over The Weekend

The Edwards Aquifer Authority announced drought restrictions on July 13.

Over ten fire trucks from five fire departments were called in to help York Creek Volunteer Fire Department fight a Hay Field fire, which temporarily closed Farm to Market 621 on Saturday.

York Creek Volunteer Fire Department received help from City of San Marcos Fire Department, South Hays Fire Department, Martindale Fire Department, City of Kyle Fire Department and San Marcos/Hays County EMS to fight the fire.

According to the York Creek Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page, the fire reached 26 acres and 60 hay bales before it was brought under control.

While no one was reported injured, two firefighters were treated for minor heat exhaustion.

Any investigation into the cause of the fire will be performed by the Guadalupe County Fire Marshal. Wildfires occur in arid, dry conditions and are common in drought situations. The Edwards Aquifer Authority announced drought restrictions on July 13.
