Texas State Bobcat Athlete Signs Professional Deal In Germany

“I am very pleased that Kavin has signed a lucrative contract to play in Germany. He has worked very hard and deserves such an opportunity,” said Kaspar.

SAN MARCOS, TexasAfter helping lead the Texas State men’s basketball team to the postseason for the first time in 20 years, Kavin Gilder-Tilbury signed a contract that will see him play in Europe next season. The former Bobcat became the 32nd player that has suited up for head coach Danny Kaspar to be offered an international professional contract.

“I’ve been dreaming since I was a kid for this opportunity,” said Gilder-Tilbury. “I am truly grateful and excited for my new journey!”

Gilder-Tilbury signed in July to play for RheinStars Köln based out of Cologne, Germany. The team will play the 2017-18 season in the ProA, the second tier basketball league in the country. The season begins for the Houston native and the RheinStars on September 23 at home against Phoenix Hagen.

“I am very pleased that Kavin has signed a lucrative contract to play in Germany. He has worked very hard and deserves such an opportunity,” said Kaspar. “He has a great future and I hope and pray for his health and good fortune as he tries to advance himself in professional basketball.”

In his four years in a Bobcat uniform, Gilder-Tilbury became the only player in program history to record 1,000+ points, 500+ rebounds, 100+ steals and 50+ blocks in a career. He finished with 1,385 points in his TXST career, ranking sixth in school history, while netting 573 this past season, the 10 most ever by a Bobcat in a campaign.

The 6-foot, 7-inch forward was selected to the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team and named to the SBC All-Tournament Team after leading TXST to the tournament finals for the first time in program history. He was also a NABC All-District 24 Second Team pick and the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic Most Outstanding Player after leading the Bobcats to the tournament title to open the 2016-17 season.

Gilder-Tilbury averaged 15.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game his final collegiate season. He also shot 49.4 percent from the field and lead the team in three-point percentage (37.5%) for the fourth consecutive season, the only player in program history to accomplish the feat.
