Soil & Water Stewardship Week, Encourages Wise Use Of Precious Resources

Hays County Courthouse, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court reminded residents that fertile soil and clean water provide us all with our daily sustenance, and proclaimed April 23-29 as Soil and Water Stewardship Week in Hays County at is April 24 meeting.

According to the proclamation, “our security depends on healthy soil and clean water, and stewardship calls for each person to help conserve these precious resources.”

Hays County Soil and Water Conservation District Board Secretary Cliff Caskey told the Court, “We hope to save our soil and water for future generations.”

The Hays County SWCD’s mission is to encourage wise and productive use of natural resources by promoting best management practices for the earth’s incredible important soil, water, animal, plants, and air, taking into consideration the human and energy component as well. It also functions as the board of directors for the local office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The NRSC “helps people help the land.” The NRCS works with traditional agricultural producers such as cattle and goat ranchers and row crop farmers, but also recognizes the changing face of agriculture in a growing and urbanizing community. To that end, the NRCS works with organic farmers, backyard gardeners, wildlife managers and people interest in encouraging the sustainable population of pollinators.
