I-35 Traffic Alert: I-35 Mainlanes Close For Bridge Construction At Oltorf St. And William Cannon

The Texas Department of Transportation will temporarily close I-35 mainlanes at I-35 Mainlanes to Close for Bridge Construction at both Oltorf Street and William Cannon Drive Drive to allow crews and cranes to lift and place beams for the new U-turn bridge at Oltorf Street, as well as place beams for the north side of the William Cannon Drive bridge.

Lane closures and construction activities are part of the Mobility35 program which will bring mobility, safety, and connectivity for all modes of transportation.

Northbound I-35 mainlanes at the Oltorf Street exit will be closed on Wednesday, May 9, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and the southbound lanes of I-35 will be closed on Thursday, May 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.

During the closures, I-35 mainlane traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads at Oltorf Street. Frontage roads will be reduced to one lane during the closure, and delays are expected. The Oltorf Street bridge will be closed both nights beginning at 9 p.m., and drivers will be detoured south to Woodward Street, or north to Woodland Avenue. (See map below)

Northbound I-35 mainlanes at the William Cannon Drive exit will be closed on Friday, May 11, from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m., and southbound I-35 mainlanes will be closed on Saturday, May 12, from 11 p.m. to 10 a.m., weather permitting. During the closures, I-35 mainlane traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads at William Cannon Drive. (See map below)

The William Cannon Drive bridge will be closed both nights beginning at 9 p.m., and traffic will be detoured south to Slaughter Lane or north to Stassney Lane.

Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the upcoming closures. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes as delays are expected. TxDOT asks the traveling public to adhere to construction signage and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.
