Internationally Acclaimed Claremont Trio to Preform February 23

Claremont Trio, one of the finest chamber music trios in America, is bringing  three centuries of music to Texas State University at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23. The concert will be held in the new recital hall of the Performing Arts Center.

Cellist Julia Bruskin, twin sister Emily Bruskin, violinist, and pianist Donna Kwong will interpret the magic of chamber music to the Central Texas with the same passion and verve as they’ve played throughout the world.

The New York City-based trio is coming off fall performances at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston and in Washington at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. They played to another standing ovation at the Library of Congress and in 2014 at the San Miguel de Allende International Music Festival.

“Beethoven would have beamed on their performance,” wrote the Washington Post.

The San Marcos performance will feature selections from Beethoven, Shostakovich, and Brahms.

The Bruskins have played music together since age 4. The two of them became best friends with Ms. Kwong as students at Juilliard School of Music in New York. They’ve performed together ever since.

Playing chamber music is “like a conversation among the three instruments,” Julia said. “We are always reacting to the moment when we’re performing, and you never quite know what’s going to happen. That’s what makes it really exciting to play in a group like this.”

Dr. John Fleming, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications, said the program is made possible through the generous support of Patrick W. Price, long-time San Marcos community leader and former president of the University’s Friends of Fine Arts organization. Price is sponsoring the event as part of the School of Music’s International Concert Series.

All seats are general admission. The box office opens Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $8 for students, seniors and military, not including a $2 Texas State Presents processing fee for tickets online or at the box office.
