San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District is making strides to engage its students in learning every day.

Here is a quick look at what SMCISD students and staff were up to the week of November 30 to December 6.

On Friday, November 30, the district announced that the San Marcos High School Choir Department took 12 singers to Johnson High School in San Antonio for the Pre-Area Choir Competition.

The competition took place on November 27. Six of the twelve SMHS singers are moving on to the area auditions in January, and two were selected to serve as alternates.

The Family and Community Engagement committee at Miller Middle School organized a diaper drive and collected 1973 diapers, which were donated to the Central Texas Life Care.

SMCISD students and faculty welcomed special guest educators from Beijing China Wednesday, December 5.

Guests visited multiple campuses and classrooms and exchanged learning dynamics with SMCISD teachers and administrators.

Miller Middle School hosted a Literacy Night on Wednesday, December 5, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Attendees were invited to dress as their favorite characters to celebrate all things literacy. During the event, visitors were able to visit and shop at the Miller Book Fair for the potentially perfect holiday gift.

And on Thursday, students explored the “endless possibilities” of coding and programming. Students receive an hour of code instruction to gain experience by tinkering with coding software and hands-on building modules.
