Texas State Signs 25 Football Players On National Signing Day

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State head coach Everett Withers announced the signing of 25 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.

Withers and his staff added experience to Texas State’s 2017 roster with the addition of a senior transfer and two junior college transfers. They also signed 22 players from Texas, two from Louisiana and a native of Washington D.C.

Withers and his staff focused on rebuilding the offensive and defensive lines, quarterback position and the defensive secondary. 

Texas State signed five offensive linemen, four defensive linemen, four quarterbacks and four defensive backs in this year’s class.

The Bobcats also added three linebackers on defense, along with three wide receivers, one running back and one athlete who can play both running back and wide receiver on offense.

The five offensive linemen include junior college transfer Anthony Mayes, Jr. of Lackawanna College, and freshmen Caleb Carlile from Waxahachie High School, Nic Foster from Arlington High School, Reece Jordan of Boyd High School and Tanner King of Deer Park High School.

Heading the list of defensive linemen is junior college transfer Sami Awad of Trinity Valley Community College. He is joined by Gjemar Daniels of Kennedale High School, Caeveon Patton of Cuero High School and Nick Wilkins of Manvel High School.

The four quarterbacks joining the 2017 roster included senior Damian Williams, a transfer from Mississippi State, Jaylen Gipson of Mexia High School, Willie Lee Jones, III from Silsbee High School and Kishawn Kelley of Corsicana High School.

The four defensive backs are Preston Dimery of Kerrville Tivy High School, Josh Newman of Cedar Hill High School, Kieston Roach of North Shore High School and Kordell Rodgers of Lufkin High School.

Rounding out the defensive players are three linebackers. They include inside linebacker John Brannon, along with outside linebackers London Harris of Manvel High School and Jakharious Smith of South Grand Prairie High School.

The Bobcats also added wide receivers T. J. Bedford of Covington in Louisiana, Jeremiah Haydel of Alief Taylor High School and Caleb Twyford of Farmersville High School.

The lone running back is Anthony Smith of Fossil Ridge High School. Texas State also added versatile athlete Jaylin Nelson of Duncanville to its offense.
