ALERRT Experiences Data Breach

ALERRT has trained over 130,000 law enforcement officers from around the United States how to respond to active shooter situations since it was created in 2002.

The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center at Texas State University recently experienced a data breach, which exposed the personal data of thousands of US law enforcement officials.

ZDNet reported on Friday that the data contained email addresses, work addresses and phone numbers of federal agents dating back to mid-2017.

A cache was obtained from a security researcher (breach hunter), who uses the pseudonym Flash Gordon by the publication.

ZDNet said three major agencies, the FBI, Customs and Border Protection and US Border Patrol’s staff were affected. Personal data records, including work contact information, many personal email addresses, cell phone numbers and work addresses.

ALERRT has trained over 130,000 law enforcement officers from around the United States how to respond to active shooter situations since it was created in 2002. In 2013, ALERRT at Texas State was named the National Standard in Active Shooter Response Training by the FBI.

Since its creation, ALERRT at Texas State has been awarded more than $56 million in state and federal grant funding and has trained more than 130,000 law enforcement and fire officials nationwide in dynamic, force-on-force scenario-based training. Today, the program is operating on more than $14 million for national training.
