TXST Starts SBC Play on A High Note

TROY, Ala. – The Texas State volleyball team opened Sun Belt Conference play with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) victory over Troy Friday night at Trojan Arena.

 

The Bobcats improved to 8-8 on the season and have now opened SBC action 1-0 all four years since joining the league.

 

TXST posted a .302 hitting percentage for the match while holding the Trojans (6-10, 0-1 SBC) to just .071.

 

Junior Erin Hoppe led the way with a double-double that featured 29 assists and 10 digs. Senior Shelby Vas Matt had a match-high 11 kills, while junior Jaliyah Bolden added 10 kills with a .533 hitting percentage. Fellow junior Jordan Kohl had seven kills of her own with a .462 percentage.

 

Reina Terry tallied 14 assists for the home team, and Alisha Hinrichs added 10 digs. Leah Causey and Sara Landis led the Trojans with six kills each.

 

Texas State will head over to Mobile, Alabama, to close out the road trip with a 12:30 p.m. matchup Sept. 25 against South Alabama.
