San Marcos Releases Springtime Reminder

This spring and summer marks the time when San Marcos residents begin to see young and baby wildlife, and occasionally these animals will be without their mother.

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter has had several baby animals brought in by residents thinking that they have been abandoned. However, these animals are often waiting for their mothers to return and should not be handled or removed from the area.

Over-handling or moving of baby animals such as fawns, groundlings, baby rabbits, or other wildlife can disturb the mother and prevent her from returning to her nest.

If you believe that a young animal is injured or sick, is in a dangerous place such as a yard with dogs or cats, or if you believe that the mother is deceased, please contact Animal Protection at 512.805.2655.
