AUSTIN — The Loop 82 (Aquarena Springs) overpass project is moving to its next phase of construction and introducing a new intersection for drivers. This design modification will change the way motorists currently drive on Aquarena Springs.
On Sunday night, Feb. 12, traffic will be reduced to one lane each direction between Charles Austin Drive and Mill Street. This lane reduction will last several months and clears the way for some of the construction work for the overpass to begin.
On Wednesday night, Feb. 15, all traffic on Aquarena Springs will be detoured off of the existing road near Bobcat Stadium and be permanently re-routed through the new railroad crossing and signalized intersection at Post Road. After this phase of work is complete, traffic will remain in this new configuration, but there will be two travel lanes in each direction. This is the final phase of work before the new frontage roads are complete.
Once the new overpass bridge is constructed, drivers will be able to use the new main lanes to go over the railroad tracks. Jordan Foster Construction is the contractor for the $20.7 million project that is expected to continue until late 2017.
Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the closure. Motorists should allow extra time to travel through this area during the affected hours. TxDOT asks the traveling public to be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.
